New in Plus and Pro: class goal, Effort-O-Meter and weekly plan

Three new features, one goal: making motivation visible — with a shared class goal, the Effort-O-Meter, and the weekly plan feature for independent practice and open teaching formats. In the Plus and the Pro version.

Touch typing isn’t something you learn in a single afternoon — it comes from regular practice over weeks. That is exactly where three new features of the Plus version come in: they make motivation visible, together as a class, individually for every child, and reliably week after week.

Class goal: together, not against each other

Set a shared keystroke target for the whole class — a preset like 250,000 keystrokes or a value of your own, with an optional deadline. Everything counts towards it together: every lesson, every exercise, every test, from all your students. A progress bar accompanies the class on every page, and a contributions view shows how much each student adds. Once the goal is reached, everyone who took part earns a badge: bronze for the first class goal, silver for the second, gold from the third onward.

The didactic core: A group goal motivates differently than a ranking does. Even children who aren’t (yet) the fastest experience that their contribution counts — the badge rewards taking part, not top performance. This builds togetherness instead of the pressure of comparison: you’ll do this together.

Effort-O-Meter: making effort visible

How diligently is the class really practising? The Effort-O-Meter shows a bar chart for every student — of keystrokes, characters or mistakes — summed per day, week or month, all on the same scale and therefore directly comparable. A from–until filter narrows the period, and hovering over a bar reveals the exact value.

The didactic core: Speed is talent and training — but effort is the lever every child holds in their own hands. The Effort-O-Meter honours exactly that effort and shows you at a glance who is keeping at it and who needs a little encouragement right now, regardless of performance level.

Weekly plan: independent practice without the admin work

Independent practice, weekly-plan work and open teaching formats are part of contemporary teaching — but they often create a lot of administrative work for teachers. The new weekly plan feature takes that admin off your hands: switch it on once, and from then on a weekly task quota — in the form of a keystroke target — applies to your class. You choose the due day and the weekly target, and Typewriter shows right away how many minutes that means at the class’s current average. The tasks are automatically tailored to each learner: everyone practises on their own lessons, at their own level, at their own pace — nothing is handed out, and the counting happens automatically.

Students see their weekly progress directly in their overview — all the way to a green “Weekly goal reached!”. As the teacher, you see at a glance in the weekly history who has met their quota: week by week, with green bars for goals achieved and a total column across the whole school year. Completed weeks are recorded permanently, even if you change the target later.

The didactic core: Weekly-plan work thrives on self-direction — children decide when and how they meet their quota, and in doing so take ownership of their learning. Because the target counts keystrokes instead of prescribing a fixed text, every child works at their own learning level: differentiation included. And the weekly history makes reliability visible — a fair, low-key basis for the participation grade, entirely without paperwork.
